COVID -19 and Occupational Medicine FAQ

At Oregon Occupational Medicine, we understand that our current world circumstances
regarding the pandemic of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) may bring up many questions
about both occupational medicine and Immigration needs.

How do I prepare for my appointment?

Arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment time
Bring photo identification
Print and complete the patient forms that are pertinent to the services you are receiving. Pertinent forms are listed by type of service here.
Bring (wear) your glasses or contacts if you wear corrective lenses of any kind for any purpose).

If your visit includes the following exams/components please prepare accordingly:

Lifting test/PC-Wear comfortable clothing and closed toed shoes.
Blood work-Drink plenty of water the day of your visit, adequate hydration makes obtaining your sample easier.
Respirator Fit Test-Be sure that any facial hair complies with OSHA regulations for respirator fit testing which state: “The test shall not be conducted if there is any hair growth between the skin and the face piece sealing surface, such as stubble beard growth, beard, mustache or sideburns which cross the respirator sealing surface. Any type of apparel which interferes with a satisfactory fit shall be altered or removed.”

What is involved with a pre-placement exam?

The exam components vary to some degree based on your company’s requests. Most exams include:

Height
Weight
Vital Signs (Blood Pressure, Pulse, Respiratory Rate, Temperature)
Vision (near, far, peripheral, color)
Hearing (as either a whisper test or audiogram if requested)
Urine Dipstick (this is not a drug screen)
Urine Drug Screen (if requested by your company)
Physical Exam (this is performed by one of our Physicians to verify there are no health conditions that would limit your ability to safely do your job)

How long will my appointment take?

You will be in our office approximately one hour. This may vary due to your specific exam components. We work hard to see patients at their appointment times. However, as a medical clinic that provides same day injury care, if someone arrives with an injury they will be evaluated and cared for in a time frame that is appropriate for the severity of their injury, this occasionally means they take priority over scheduled appointments.

Do I need to make an appointment?

Yes, to provide the best care most services we provide require an appointment.
The following services do not necessitate an appointment:

Acute (same-day) Injury Care
Drug and Alcohol Tests
Immunizations

Do you have staff that speak languages other than English?

Dr. Dodge speaks Spanish. However, for Spanish speaking patients we still prefer to schedule an interpreter.

We do not provide interpreter services for non-injury related care (such as pre-placement exams). Patient’s will need to bring a co-worker, friend or family member, whom they are comfortable with being part of their visit, to interpret for them if they are unable to communicate effectively in English.

Can I bring my children to my appointment?

We prefer that you do not bring children to your employment exams if at all possible. If your child does accompany you, we will do our best to complete your entire exam; however we do not provide childcare. Many of the components of exams are rather detailed and if you are unable to perform them due to your child’s presence we may request that you reschedule.
